Welcome to Jaya Agricultural College
Agriculture and allied sectors are critical for employment and livelihoods, especially for small
and marginal farmers who dominate the agricultural ecosystem in India. Since independence,
Indian agriculture has experienced significant progress in terms of area, production, and
productivity of major crops, thanks to the Green Revolution and technological interventions by
State Agricultural Universities.
To achieve self-sufficiency in food production and meet growing food demands, the Green
Revolution was launched in 1967 and continued until 1978. The strong foundation laid during this
period resulted in remarkable outcomes—India achieved self-sufficiency with food grain
production reaching 257.36 million tons in 2018–19.
However, to sustain and enhance agricultural growth in the face of a rising population, it is
essential to encourage and motivate youth to enter the agriculture sector. Strengthening
agricultural education infrastructure is key to this goal. Youth must be made aware of the
importance of agriculture through large-scale awareness programs that highlight the diverse
opportunities within agriculture and allied sectors.
In view of these needs, Jaya Agricultural College, Arakkonam was established to
contribute to the advancement of agricultural education.
Agricultural education opens numerous employment opportunities in both public and private
sectors. Graduates can pursue careers in the banking sector as Field Officers, serve as
Agricultural Officers in State Government, or work with fertilizer and pesticide companies.
Additionally, higher studies can lead to roles such as Assistant Professors, Research Scholars,
or Scientists. Students may also become successful entrepreneurs by starting agro-based
industries.
Jaya Agricultural College, Arakkonam, is proud of its qualified and experienced faculty, who are
dedicated to nurturing students in academics, extracurricular skills, and preparation for
competitive exams.
The institution boasts excellent infrastructure, fully equipped laboratories across departments,
and well-maintained crop fields for practical training. Our campus also includes an acoustically
designed auditorium, spacious open areas, and a well-equipped playground to promote students’
all-round development, including in sports.
